Reflection Paper

“Why do you take CALL course at this semester?” or “Are you go crazy? You are a junior now.  You should take your time to take another professional class in our department” these questions were usually asked by my classmates.  Every time I was so embarrassed about these.  Because so many friends asked me and I did not know how to give them the best answer.  Now I would like to reveal this answer at this time I came to this class because I want to enhance English capability.  It is crucial international language now.  Whether I am in Taiwan or other places, good English ability is very helpful to me.  Perhaps it can make me get a competitive pay in the future.  So I should make good use of my time to take English classes at present.

The first time I came to this class.  I felt a little nervous, because this class was all in English.  I feared that I could not know what teacher taught.  I even felt I took this class was a wrong decision maybe I will not pass the exam.  It was my first impression at this class.  But when I went to this class again and again I gradually loved this class.  Because there were so many English learning materials which I have never found were interesting to me.  Such as concordancers, Podcast, OpenCourseware, my ET, and Online Comics.  The most memorable topic for me is My ET.  It provides different kinds of theme to let user practice and it also helps user to score, because of scoring system, I can know whether I pronounce correctly or not.  I have one experience about My ET.  There are two assignments about My ET at this class.  Both of them I tried so many times to do, But I just got seventy-seven or seventy-nine points.  I did not know why I just got a lower score.  I have already worked hard to pronounce and sometimes I even felt thirsty.  When the score showed up, I was sorrowful I cannot accept this truth.  From now on, I am going to continue to try my best to upgrade my speaking ability.  I hope that one day I will get a higher score in My ET.

At last I feel like appreciating teacher and my classmates.  I really have no regret to take this course.  I still remembered the first assignment to set up my blog and upload an introduction of myself.  At the beginning I was so shock because I did not know how to use suitable vocabulary to describe myself.  To finish this homework, I asked so many friends to help me check it.  I corrected the content over and over again and eventually completed it. It really took me a huge amount of time and made me impressed.  Although it was not a good impression to me, through this opportunity I also learned how to write and expand my vocabulary.  Writing in blog is literally a good way to increase writing skills.  I am not sure I will continue keeping this habit.  But I believe it is so useful at present.  After I finish this class, I cannot forget all of English materials which teacher taught at this class.  I will make good use of every tool to increase my English ability and find further tools to help me.  I hope I have a chance to work overseas to earn much money in the future.  If I own much money, I will set a scholarship to encourage my younger schoolmates to learn language.

Assignment 10-Opencourseware

I have heard opencourseware before. I heard this word in a speech which I attended in last winter vacation. The speaker introduced Taiwan University Opencourseware to us. "Internet is more and more convenient now.  Although we are not a Taiwan University students, we can take class which is interesting to us through Internet." he said. I think it's very useful to me. Because I can choose class what I like. I am studying in business school now. So if I want to take psychology class, I can't find it on my school.  This time opencourseware is better for me. I sign in this website and search class about psychology, science,  literature and so on.  The opencourseware is very good to use.  I love it.

Angela Lee Duckworth: The key to success? Grit

After I saw this video, I learn a lot from it. The speaker told us what the key to success.
"One characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success.  It wasn't social intelligence.
It wasn't good looks, physical health, and it wasn't IQ. It was grit. Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals.  Grit is having stamina.  Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality.  Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint." she said

Although my English ability isn't as good as my CALL classmates, I can try to work hard to catch up them. I will take grit to be successful. I love English and so dost it.

Assignment5

After I watch Steve Jobs videos, I want to share my story to everybody.
One time my mom told me a thing, she wanted to take me to go out when I was a junior high school student in summer vacation. At first I feel so excited about going outside, because I had already stayed home for a long time. I feel very boring and I don't know what can I do.  I was satisfied that I could go outdoor. I sang a song and get on my mama's motorcycle. The destination is not far. It only take a little time and we reach the weird place. why did I say it's a odd place? Because I just see a row of buildings, not any interesting things. I feel so discouraged and I want to go home. But my mom said followed me, she take me upstairs. And I found a teacher was standing in front of me. I finally realize I was deceived by my mom. She wanted to let me learn table tennis. I was unwilling to learn something and I even wanted to flee away. But she is my mom, I can't do it. I stay and learn from my ping-pong teacher. At that time I hate my mom to deceive me. But now, I am so appreciate her to let me learn a different sport. Every time I go to my PE class, and teacher teach us table tennis.  No matter what she teaches I can do perfect pose. My classmates always say I'm excellent and ask me to teach them. I take pride in my table tennis skills.
Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in junior high school. But it was very, very clear looking backwards three years later.

I think podcast is an useful learning resource. It provides all kinds of subject to learners. Everyone can choose topics they like. And the speaker in the podcast talk clearly. He talks three times. At first speed is slow , the second speaker will explain all article, the third speed is normal. So I can comprehend  any topic clearly. If I don't know at the first time. I can listen it again and again.
Compare to another learning resource such as CNN or ICRT , I think ESL podcast is best. Because CNN and ICRT topics' vocabulary is a little difficult , I am not acceptable at present. The ESL podcast sometimes uses some word I don't understand, but speaker would interpret all of word in simple english. I really like it. It's a good learning resource.

The learners' dictionary is beneficial to me, because it let me know how to explain this word easily.

Bilingual dictionary is convenient. If I don't know the meaning of the word,I can look up the word quickly, but it is just suitable for beginners .If I want to learn a lot, learners' dictionary is a good choice.I usually use Cambridge learner's dictionary and Yahoo dictionary. Because there are  many example sentences and complete explanations , they are helpful for me to learn english.
